New update: As of 17th December, the Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz had stated that he will ensure the service of the iconic Penang ferry will continue on.
The Pakatan Harapan Government has allocated a total of RM30 Million to Penang Port Sdn Bhd as stated in the Dewan Rakyat.
After the termination of Penang ferry service travelling across the mainland and island was announced on Jan 1, the number of passengers has remarkably risen today.
A passenger among the ferry users, Mohd Rizikam Milan Md Hasbullah, he and his wife were originally from Penang now living in Selangor, brought his children along for the final ferry ride after knowing that the service would no longer be available in the coming year.

The Penang ferry service that used to carry both passengers and their vehicles will no longer be available starting from Jan 1 and will be replaced by speedboats that only carries passengers, cyclists and motorcyclists.
An employee from a hotel in Batu Feringghi, Norida Rosli, 33, actually took leave from work just to take her family on a final ferry ride.
Many ferry users coming from different states have taken the opportunity to enjoy the final ride before it is officially ceased.
